what have the candidates for pennsylvania governor said about supporting the gift ban?
Pennsylvania HAS NO LIMITS ON GIFTS FROM LOBBYISTS TO LEGISLATORS.
A large majority of Pennsylvania voters recognize the need for major change.
We need elected officials who agree with voters that money in politics is undermining our democracy and that this corruption must be addressed in order to fix all sectors of public life desperately in need of change.
We need elected officials who have the ideas, the plans, and the courage to fix the system.
Unfortunately, some politicians don’t even want to talk about corruption and bribery, let alone make the commitments that we need!
We're making THE GIFT BAN an election issue.
March On Harrisburg asked all candidates running for Governor of Pennsylvania to commit to supporting a Gift Ban.
Here is what the candidates have said about the Gift Ban:
Jake Corman, Candidate for Governor 2022
Senator Corman says he would sign the Gift Ban into law if was the Governor…but as the current Senate President with the power to pass the Gift Ban now, he says, "No Comment."
Doug Mastriano, Candidate for Governor 2022
Doug Mastriano is on the record supporting a Gift Ban.
“Pennsylvania does not have specific laws to limit high-valued gifts for public officials. Gifts can be used to leverage public officials to take specific legislative actions. I believe legislation should be passed to ban gifts for elected officials in the Commonwealth.”
Lou Barletta, Candidate for Governor 2022
We recieved the following statement from Lou Barletta supporting a Gift Ban.
"Lobbyists and special interests have had too much control in Harrisburg for far too long. It’s time for new, principled leadership to bring back trust and transparency to the citizens of our Commonwealth. I fully support a lobbyist gift ban for public officials and public employees. I had to adhere to strict gift bans when I was in Congress and Harrisburg should be no different."
Josh Shapiro, Candidate for Governor 2022
We recieved the following statement from Josh Shapiro supporting a Gift Ban.
“Josh Shapiro believes that trust in government and accountability for public officials are critical to the foundation of our democracy. That’s why, as Attorney General, he instituted a new gift ban in the agency – and as Governor, Josh would sign legislation to implement a comprehensive gift ban for Pennsylvania public officials and public employees.”
Joe Gale, Candidate for Governor 2022
We recieved the following statement from Joe Gale supporting a Gift Ban.
“As the next Governor of Pennsylvania I will 100% fully support gift ban legislation. My opponents answer to party bosses, establishment insiders and swamp lobbyists. I will answer to the people, not the influence peddlers. As Governor, I will hold bad Republicans accountable not just by naming names, but by supporting primary challenges against those who undermine a common-sense conservative agenda - including those in my own party who resist the passage of gift ban legislation. “
Nche Zama, Candidate for Governor 2022
We recieved the following statement from Nche Zama supporting a Gift Ban.
“My administration will have complete transparency. As a doctor I was known to refuse and ban gifts from pharmaceutical companies.
They were not welcomed in all Institutes under my leadership.
As governor, I will ban all gifts from lobbyists and special interest groups.”
Joe Soloski, Candidate for Governor 2022
We recieved the following statement from Joe Soloski supporting a Gift Ban.
“As the Libertarian candidate for Governor of Pennsylvania, I advocate for a complete ban on gifts for all of our elected officials. I am hoping that the State Legislature soon votes on a bill currently out of committee and ready for the house floor…I am in complete support of ban on gifts for all elected officials. Those gifts only breed corruption.”
Christina DiGiulio, Candidate for Governor 2022
We recieved the following statement from Christina DiGiulio supporting a Gift Ban.
“One of the four pillars of the Green party is democracy. We believe that our public officials should be accountable to the public that elects them, not to those who buy them. Therefore, we refuse campaign contributions from corporations and their lobbyists and we will take no gifts, even the common sense gifts that March On Harrisburg’s favored bill would allow. We believe that our representatives are handsomely paid and need no additional compensation.”
We did not receive any response from the OTHER candidates running for Governor.
