This #GivingTuesday, donate to the democracy movement in Pennsylvania that is making our legislature MOVE on anti-corruption legislation!
While our legislature may be known for being notoriously ineffective in moving any meaningful legislation that the public supports, we have shown how much power we the people hold when we take action together.
Convincing our legislators to stop accepting bribes has not been easy - like attempting to move a mountain. But when our communities are suffering at the hands of corruption, apathy is NOT an option.
We refused to let our legislators keep the public in the dark about their corruption on our watch:
Because of our actions, because of our pressure,
because of our movement…
we made the legislature act on the Gift Ban.
Together, we are moving the mountain.
Not even the 2014 scandal revealing that House members accepted cash-stuffed envelopes from an undercover informant posing as a law enforcement lobbyist made them act!
The legislature also didn’t budge when Governor Wolf came into office in 2015 with a self-imposed Gift Ban for the executive branch and urged the legislature to pass their own ban.
Let us be clear: 33 Gift Ban bills have been introduced in the last 20 years and the only two that have made it out of committee moved because of our work.
We will continue to push the Gift Ban through each vote needed for it to become law. Please consider becoming a recurring donor today to help sustain the fight over the next year to get the Gift Ban through both chambers before session is over.
Once we pass the Gift Ban, we will continue to be a vehicle for pro-democracy and anti-corruption legislation in Pennsylvania and work to pass every policy in our Money Out, People In! Policy Platform.
