CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE
The goal of nonviolent direct action (NVDA) is to force an encounter between citizens and their government. The goal of our NVDA is to confront our public servants and insist that they see themselves as human beings obligated to serve the public. Direct action reminds legislators that we are human beings who deserve to participate, in a more fair and equitable manner, in making the collective decisions that govern our lives.
Over the past seven years we have conducted over 40 strategic direct actions. This has included everyhing from banner drops, bird-dogging, interupting session, blocking hallways and entrances, crashing fundraisers and sitting-in offices of legislative leaders who block our bills.
Our actions have been featured in the New York Times, the Associated Press, SpotlightPA, The Inquirer and countless other outlets.
MARCHING
In September 2024, we marched for three days and 35 miles from Lancaster to Harrisburg to demand PA legislatures stop foreign corporations from political spending.
LOBBYING
Lobbying is not just a tactic for the rich and powerful. Our elected officials work for us and should listen to us! Community-powered lobbying lifts the interests of the working class to counter the corporate lobbyists who only care about profit. If we don’t talk with our public officials, then only the rich and powerful will talk to them.
We lobby to educate and move our State Legislators toward action. We reclaim the space as the People’s House and take the time to explain our issues, why they are important and what we expect them to do.
Since our 2016 launch, we have conducted thousands of lobbying meetings in the State Capital and in legislative district offices across Pennsylvania .
We have met with our legislators about: banning bribes, ending gerrymandering, expanding voting rights, stopping dark money, enacting ranked choice voting, voting machine security & more!
Whether you have never lobbied before and want to join us in Capitol or you want to try lobbying on your own, we are here to support you.
View our events calendar below to attend a virtual lobbying training and in-person lobbying days!
Our legislative team meets virtually every week and is open to anyone interested in advancing our legislation in the Capitol. Please email info@mohpa.org to inquire about joining!
