We are marching 35 miles from Lancaster to Harrisburg from September 13-15, and waging nonviolent direct action in Harrisburg on September 16 and 17. We march and wage nonviolence so that we can accomplish the “politically impossible” goal of making a corrupt legislature outlaw its own corruption and strengthen democracy.
We do the 'politically impossible.' In 2019 - we helped pass the first substantial voting reform in Pennsylvania in 80 years! That's right, our elections in Pennsylvania had not been updated since 1937 and we helped make the Pennsylvania State Legislature pass a landmark law to make voting more accessible in our state.
We have passed the Gift Ban out of committee twice and moved Dark Money transparency and campaign finance transparency through the full house - this is the most significant movement on money in politics legislation in our state in recent history. Political insiders have told us since we started that our goals are impossible, and yet we keep moving forward and taking our democracy where it has never been before.
Right now, we are busy lobbying in the State Capitol to advance bills that will ban unlimited campaign contributions and ban mega corporations from spending in our elections.
We are closer than ever to passing these incredibly impactful laws (imagine if billionaires and mega corporations couldn’t buy our elections…), but it's going to take even more pressure to make sure that we WIN and move more pro-democracy bills into law this session.
In 15 weeks, on Friday September 13th, we are taking to the streets again for a democracy that represents the people! For three days, we will march 35 miles from Lancaster to the People's House in Harrisburg.
